reparing for its 40th anniversary, Konya Chamber of
Industry running successfully in its efforts to increase
both production and exports from the city. Memiş
Kütükçü, chairman of the Konya chamber of industry and
board member of TOBB, said “We do our best to have
the voice of Konya is heard. We work for feeding the de-
velopments in exports and in manufacturing by R&D and
innovations. To this aim, we are establishing a Regional
Innovation Center, the first in Turkey.”
Mr. Chairman, will you please evaluate the position of
Konya as an agricultural province and having a growing
industrial base in Turkey’s national economy?
That’s true. One Konya was known as a grain silo of
Turkey, an agricultural province. Recently it has beco-
ming an industrial center as well. Presently, 67 percent of
total exports from Konya is industrial goods. There are 25
Konyan firms among the top thousand industrial establish-
ments in Turkey.
Unemployment in Konya is 4.7 %, second only after Ka-
raman. Konya has an industrial base that produces in 80
sub-segments. Automotive and manufacturing segments
are competing with world brands in international markets.
