Foods, footwear, and casting industries are
other major categories. The industry exported
1.4 billion dollars worth of goods in 2013, and
during the first eight months exports passed
over 1 billion dollars level in 2014.
Our target for 2023 in exports is 15 billion
dollars and a 3 % share in total exports. We
develop strategies to strengthen our compe-
titive power and toward more valuable pro-
duct categories. To this aim, we are building
the first regional innovation center in Turkey,
of 4100 sqm, over 20 thousand sqm land in
Konya organized industrial zone. There will be
specific test laboratories for cluster coordina-
tion, renewable energy, incubation center,
business development and project centers,
NDT (non-destructive test) laboratory and a
center for university-industry cooperation.
Will you provide information about Konya
organized industrial zone?
Established in 1976, it is one of the most
modern industrial zones in Turkey. It provides
employment for 30 thousand people, among
the top OIZ’s. Productions are done in 40 dif-
ferent segments by 413 companies. Automo-
tive, trailers, machinery, equipment, metals,
rubber and plastics, food are major catego-
ries. In the future the number of companies
will be 578 when the 4th expansion phase is
completed. The area of the zone is 16 million
sqm, and it will reach up to 23 million sqm,
soon. As we know the importance of qualified
base of labor force for the industrial develop-
ment, a vocational and technical school was
established in the zone to meet the needs
of industries in the region. All graduates are
guaranteed to have job offers. To support
them, a hostel, workshops and social facilities
are being built in the zone.
As a first in Turkey, we decided to supply our
own energy from solar sources. Works for
the establishment of solar energy central of
1 MW, was started and is expected to be
completed during these days. It will save
21 percent energy in the zone. We are the
second industrial zone in Turkey having the
energy efficiency certificate of the ministry.
We are the fourth zone in Turkey having our
own optical communication sub-structure
that makes data transfers more speedy and
more economical.
