our common targets, for our wealth we have

to collaborate. We have to move towards

more valuable products in the exports. We

have to improve cooperation between our

universities, public and industrialists in order

to export more. We have to act in line with

our partners, by saying “we”. This conference

shows us that we managed to say “we” and

will be more successful in the future.”

The first panel was on the engine story of

Turkey. The participants were Dr. Hayri Baracli,

neral manager of industry, Assoc. Prof. Dr.

foundation, Ali Ihsan Ilkbahar, board member

motive clusters on engine technologies were

discussed. Participants were, Prof. Dr. Cem

Sorusbay, of ITU, Martin Proba, clustering

experts of Darmstadt chamber of industry and

trade, Dr. Barbara Jorg, general manager of

Domestic engine for national security

Domestic engine process and engine in the

world sessions were held in the second day of

the conference. Participants were, Tarik Ogut,

board member of TAYSAD, Resit Yigit Okan,

section manager of AVL Turkiye design, analy-

sis and program management, Rustu Ergen of

For Otosan, Zeynep Erkunt, general manager

and chairman of the board of Erkunt tractor

company, Nurten Dereoglu, general mana-

ger of Tulomsas, Dr. Taner Gocmez, general

manager of FEV Turkey and Koray Gokalp,

ex-general manager of Hema defense. Tarik

Ogut said, “National security is important. We

should take measures immediately against

possible embargos in the future. Economic

factors and profits are more important for

private companies. But these are secondary in

defense industries. National security is a must

how costly it might be. For national security in

automotive field, we have to produce comp-

lete engines domestically because it is the he-

art of vehicles. Process of developing national

engines requires a hard and long process. We

need more expertise in development phase.

We have been manufacturing vessel for navy

but designs are from abroad. For the first time,

a national warship was designed by Turkish

engineers and produced by Milgem. By using

domestic funds, we have to establish a 100

percent company to produce 100 percent

nation engine.”

One of the speakers of the conference,

Koray Gokalp, ex-general manager of Hema

Defense, said “We pay 450 dollar for a screw

that can be produced in Konya. It will be cost

much to replace our F16 fleet, each costs 150

million dollars. We have to start somewhere to

produce them nationally.” The last session was

on the topic, engine in the world. Participants

were, Ahmet Yilmaz, eXTim Gmbh chairman of

the board, Prof. Dr. Cornel Stan, West Saxony

university research and technology director,

Dr. Ing. Roman Henze, of Braunschweig Tech-

the end of the conference, representatives of

27 automotive companies held 108 bilateral

talks with Otokar, Anadolu Isuzu, Karsan, IETT

and EGO managers.
