Locating at Alaeddin’s Hill in the district of Karatay, Konya, Alaed-
din Mosque is also known as Ulu Mosque. Having built nearby Seljuk
Palace, this mosque was completed by Sultan Alaeddin Keykubat,
according to the inscription written as four lines over the door of
the mosque in north side. As for the two lines marble inscription
taking place at the right side of this inscription the architect of the
mosque is Dımaşklı Mehmet bin Havlan, its trustee is Atabeg Ayaz.
On the Arabic inscription with three lines over the main door of
the mosque, the mosque was completed in 1220 in the control of
Atabeg Ayaz. Another inscription with five lines, construction of
the mosque was begun by the order of Keykavus I in the control
of Atabeg Ayaz in 1219. As for another inscription with Arabic four
lines on the right of the entrance door, the mosque and tomb were
built by the order of Alaaddin Keykubat, son of Sultan Keyhüsrev,
who is son of Kılıçarslan in the control of Atabeg Ayaz in 1219. In
a round tiles panel over the entrance door, there are two Arabic
inscriptions. In these, the titles of Sultan were indicated and in other
inscription said that the mosque was built by Kerimuddin Erdişah in
1220. But who is Kerimuddin Erdişah is not known and in what duties
he had been are not known. Apart from these instructions there
are two instructions on the west wall of the mosque. On both them
the name of Sultan Alaeddin is written as Keykubat. On the east
side, the mosque was repaired by Sururi Pasha, the governor of
Konya through the imperial order of Sultan Abdülhamid II in 1889-
1890.
Based on Altunba Foundation, known as Sultan Mosque and
construction of the mosque launched by Sultan Mesut I (1116-
1155), and then the mosque - which was built by his son Kılıçarslan
