he 14th World Conference of Historical Cities, of which Tahir
Akyürek, Mayor of Konya, is the member, held in the city of
Yangzhou, China. Regarding the contributions and innovative
identity of Konya was decided to maintain its board membership
four more years in the Union.
The 14th World Conference of Historical Cities that has 103 mem-
ber cities from 61 countries was held in the city of Yangzhou.
Selim Yücel Güleç, Chairman of Foreign Affairs Office of Kon-
ya Metropolitan Municipality, participated in the conference
representing Mayor Tahir Akyürek. Güleç told, “Mawlana Culture
Valley Project at the conference entitled “Urban Growth Sensible
to Environment and Restoration of Historical Places” and Covered
Market (Bedesten) regulation accompanying slide performance
at the first session.
As for the youth session of the 14th World Conference of Histori-
cal Cities, Ahmet Murat Koru, Chairman for 1st Period of Youth
Assembly on behalf of Konya, participated, in his presentation he
told the investments made by Konya Metropolitan Municipality
directed towards youths.
At the conference to which over 500 participants from 29 count-
ries attended, the decision made for Konya to maintain its mem-
bership for four more years at the board of the World Conference
of Historical Cities due to its innovative identity such as supporting
actively to the works of the union, initiatives directed towards
increase the number of the Union’s member, its efforts directed
towards protecting historical city texture and letting youth sessions
take place at the General Meeting gatherings.
15th Conference in Australia
Accepting the communique prepared in Yangzhou to coopera-
te between member cities to protect historical heritage and to
provide historical city growth sensible to environment and to share
experience, the conference completed its works to convene in
the city of Bad Ischl, Australia two years later.
