onya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor
Tahir Akyürek said the new stadium built
by the Metropolitan Municipality with
the capacity of 42 thousand people they
made Turkish sport won a great work not only
for Konya, but also for the world. Mayor Ak-
yürek stated the New Konya Stadium which is
in the ball shape in green-white color would
make a track across the world.
Mayor Akyürek said that they let Konya
gained very crucial investments in the past 10
years, adding that the work which has crow-
ned those investments was the New Stadium.
Stating they felt happiness building one of the
biggest stadiums of Turkey in Konya Mayor
Akyürek highlighted that they have built the
stadium with a capacity of 42 thousand spec-
tators in order to allow the European matches
to be played.
Recording the new green-white in football
shaped stadium would make a track in the
world, Akyürek continued, “Under the stadi-
um there is a parking lot for 500 vehicles, in
addition to the number of 3000 unit outdoor
parking lot. There are 4 main doors where
truck, ambulance, fire extinguish vehicles
can enter easily. The utmost modern stadium
also has 54 lodges with under floor heating,
drainage and heating systems. In winter icing
will not occur. There is also heating system for
tribune, the seats in the European standar-
ds. Scoreboard has the biggest screen of
Turkey. There are 40 exits for audiences and
14 entrances, nearly 100 tourniquets, lifts for
disabled and masjids.
The only stadium built by the capacity of the
municipality
Stressing Konya has reached a monumental
work with the new stadium, Mayor Akyürek
said, “The stadium, which was built throu-
gh the finance of the municipality without
contribution of any other establishment, not
only belongs to Konya, but also to the Turkish
sports. With the new stadium we have strengt-
hened the sport infrastructure in Konya. Here
an Olympiad village is also being prepared.
One of the most important works was the
stadium. We were waiting completion of this.
We will also accomplish other ones.”
Konya is obliged to play to upper level
The new stadium has emerged Konya to front in
the competition between the cities, he said.
“If the European Youth Basketball Champi-
onship held in Konya, it is thanks to our Sports
and Congress Center with the capacity of
10 thousand units. Regarding conforming to
the UEFA criterions, the new stadium causes
contest in terms of sportive events with the
world cities. In addition, we contribute to the
football’s economy. Being an assertive, lea-
ding city is possible with the new premises,”
Mayor Akyürek concluded.
